Local 20 - Committees

Local 20 maintains a variety of committees dedicated to providing our members with meaningful support, valuable resources, and timely information.

These committees exist for the benefit of our membership and operate through the active involvement and dedication of our members. Their success depends on participation, collaboration, and the collective commitment of those willing to serve.

PEER SUPPORT GROUP

The Peer Support Group is dedicated to supporting the ongoing mental health and well-being of members within the Local, as well as our MOS peers throughout our response areas. Support is provided both proactively and reactively to ensure that no member faces challenges alone.

When members are exposed to critical incidents, experiencing mental health struggles, or facing burnout, the Peer Support Group responds promptly with confidential, peer-led support and guidance, while connecting members to appropriate professional resources when needed.

In addition, the group works proactively to strengthen resilience across the membership through education, outreach, and wellness initiatives designed to address the unique mental health demands of EMS professionals.

MEMBER SUPPORT & CHAPLAINCY

The Member Support & Chaplaincy Committee is dedicated to supporting the ongoing mental health and well-being of members within the Local, as well as our MOS peers throughout our response areas.

The committee provides both proactive and reactive support. When members are exposed to critical incidents, experiencing mental health challenges, or facing burnout, the committee responds promptly with peer-led support, guidance, and access to appropriate resources.

In addition, the committee works proactively to strengthen the overall wellness of our membership through programs, initiatives, and outreach efforts focused on the unique mental health needs of EMS professionals.

COMMUNICATIONS/SOCIAL MEDIA

The Communications Committee oversees the internal and external distribution of information for the Local. This includes managing and maintaining our website, social media platforms, blog posts, email communications, press releases, and other official messaging.

The committee works closely with the Secretary to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent communication. Members of the committee assist with publishing content across social media channels and support additional communication-related projects as assigned.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Finance Committee meets quarterly to review the union’s financial status and conduct audits of the books, along with other assigned responsibilities.

The committee works closely with the Treasurer in developing the annual budget and provides the Executive Board with insight and recommendations regarding the proposed use of union funds, ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsible financial stewardship.

EVENTS COMMITTEE

The Events and Social Committee oversees the planning and execution of events and social opportunities for the members of the Local. The committee is responsible for creating engaging experiences that strengthen camaraderie and foster member involvement.

This committee actively seeks new and creative ways to connect with the membership through community events, both in-person and online. Responsibilities include organizing holiday celebrations, member gatherings, and fundraising initiatives, along with other events that promote unity and engagement within the Local.

GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

The Grievance Committee meets as needed to review grievance actions as recommended by the Chief Shop Steward and the Executive Board.

The committee evaluates active cases, provides guidance, and offers recommendations on appropriate next steps, including matters that may proceed to arbitration. Its role is to ensure thorough review, fairness, and strategic decision-making in the handling of member grievances.
