Odyssey Sinisterra (b. 5/17/1997 d. 5/24/2022)

June 13, 2022 - In Memoriam

Odyssey was a member of the IAEP Local 20 when she died suddenly and tragically in May of 2022 at the age of 25 years old. She was a dedicated and compassionate EMT, who we will always remember for her warmth and smile. In her Aunt's words, "Odyssey was a giver and a lover. She stood for integrity and always lending an ear to anyone no matter their background. She was selfless, following her passion and gone too soon." Her spirit will live on amongst us here in the Local 20 and beyond, always.

The following is her obituary in its entirety:

Odyssey Novella Sinisterra, affectionately known as Ody, was the daughter of the late Christine Green and Jemel Sinisterra (living). Odyssey was born on May 17, 1997 in the New York Presbyterian Hospital. Odyssey entered Heaven's gate on May 24, 2022.

Odyssey graduated from Harlem Renaissance Hight School in New York City. She lived in the Bronx, New York most of her life and spent some of her childhood in Gainesville, Florida. Odyssey was full of ambition, a certified EMT for Citywide Mobile Response followed by Empress Ambulance Services. Her latest and greatest passion was to attend nursing school.

Everyone who knew Odyssey can attest to the fact that she loved God, family, friends, bike riding, and food. Like her mom, Ody was a genuinely fun-loving person with a pure heart and loved to share entertaining moments with her family and friends. Above all, Ody treasured the love and pride of her siblings and cousins. Odyssey will always be known for her big bright eyes, beautiful smile, and her favorite sayings: "As you should," "Heard you," "That's what's up," "Keep being you, somebody gonna feel it," and "Love you more." She leaves behind a legacy of strength, philanthropy, and love.

Odyssey leaves behind to cherish her memories her siblings Tristian Thompson, Shenya Sinisterra, Jurnee Porter, Ke'oryn Sinisterra, and Jemel Sinisterra Jr.; god sister Tashana Brown; godmother Shanteice Brown; Her father Jemel Sinisterra; her grandmother Novella Williams; Her grandfather Michael Hazzard; her great-grandmother Mamie Green; her Aunts Charmaine Whaley, Diane Whaley and Ebony Pinks; Her uncles Hasan Green, Jemel Green, Donald Green, Oliver Whaley, Walter Anderson, and Shaka Tyler; cousins Darrin "DJ" Harrison, Diamond Harrison, Hasan Green, LaQwan Green, Mia-Skyy Green, Daivon Clement-Green, Walter "Whitey" Anderson, and Shanaisa Tyler, along with a host of uncles, aunts, beloved best friends and extended family and friends.

We will miss her tremendously, but her beautiful spirit will live on in all of us.
